Water Work, 2002-05

This series of paintings and short video loops depict the undulating qualities of the water's surface and cross-sections of turgid marine life seen through aquarium glass. These views provide me with a place to get lost. Strange and glorious, these sights, filled with reflecting colors and sparkling light, or elaborately ornamented creatures seen through a pane of glass, are parallel for me with gazing at a screen. In these works that consist of both paintings and digital video, I wanted to express this idea of wonderment, of getting lost in an opulent place.
